Historic House on Blanding Street

Historic House on Blanding Street

Located in the heart of Columbia’s Historic District, the Historic House on Blanding Street is a stately 5,000-square foot home sitting on the site of the original Blanding House, built by Colonel Abram Blanding prior to the War for Southern Independence. Although the street was named for this prominent lawyer and engineer, his original Blanding House did not survive Sherman’s march through Columbia.

The current house was built in 1886 and withstood the big earthquake of that same year. This Victorian house reflects the elegance of a grander time with wide central halls, high ceilings, tall windows, wooden floors, and fireplaces in every room that accents the way that things used to be. Each room holds its own place in history and each has a story to tell.
